MEAR ONE (Kalen Ockerman) is a known veteran within the mural and graffiti culture of Los Angeles, and is considered among the most prolific muralists to have ever painted. His contributions to the community span across the past three decades, the most notable of which was his pioneering of the Melrose graffiti art movement in the late 80s.
Although it is clear to see the beauty and magnificence of his paintings at first glance, it is in the subtle and well thought-out details of Ockerman’s creations where the intention with which they are created becomes clear. He has a way of calling attention to societal and existential dilemmas and crises of the past, present and even the future, and his superfluous use of color and lighting combined with his keen use of symbolism and orientation result in out-of-this-world scenes that resonate timeless messages of enlightenment, self-awareness and freedom of thought.
