To commemorate its 20th anniversary, Princess Mononoke is going to be returning to theaters for a two-night special event. Organized and presented by GKIDS and Fathom Events, the event will kick off its first screening at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, the 76th birthday of director Hayao Miyazaki, in dubbed English and the second screening at 7:00 p.m. on January 9 in the original Japanese with English subtitles.

“Twenty years after its release, ‘Princess Mononoke’ remains an undisputed animated triumph and one of the most thrilling adventures ever produced,” said GKIDS’ President Eric Beckman. “Following the great success of ‘Spirited Away’ returning to theaters, we are excited to present ‘Princess Mononoke’ in a theatrical setting to fans both old and new. It’s also a fitting way to celebrate Miyazaki’s birthday as we remind ourselves of the cinematic gifts he has given audiences over the years.”

In addition to the film, audiences who attend the screenings will also be presented the 1995 music video for “On Your Mark” by J-rock duo Chage & Aska, directed by Miyazaki. In its near 22 years of existence, the video has never officially been released in the United States.

For those unfamiliar with the impassioned narrative, Princess Mononoke follows a young prince named Ashitaka as he finds himself in the middle of a war being waged between forest gods and a human mining colony that is consuming the forest’s resources. The English-dubbed version of the award-winning film features the vocal talents of Gillian Anderson, Billy Crudup, Claire Danes, Minnie Driver, Jada Pinkett Smith and Billy Bob Thornton.
