Oregon-based beat producer Supertask has just unveiled his latest release, a 3-track EP titled Kernel Panic. The new record has an overarching computerized theme to it, having track titles that you would associate with an operating system malfunction and an album cover by Trevor Malloy that resembles a circuit board. The set kicks off with the record’s title track, “Kernel Panic,” during which it feels as if time begins to slow as we embark on Supertask’s latest project in smashing through musical genre barriers. Throughout the EP’s progression, we are met with a dynamic set of moods and instrumentation, consisting of melodiously synthesized blips and glitches and dreamy, illusory vocal sampling atop a fierce beat and floor of heavy reggae-like bass. Continuing to push the envelope, this release furthers the unique style Supertask is becoming known for, bringing many genres and influences together to intertwine in a collection of hard hitting and high-energy tracks.
